Word’s of Love #3

Power and Wisdom from Above

“Sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me!” Unfortunately, that childhood refrain couldn’t be further from the truth.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things” Philippians 4:8.

We don’t have what it takes to control our tongues.  We need the power and wisdom that comes from above.

Ps. 119:11 “I have stored up your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” We can change our words by changing our hearts.

Luke 6:45  “the good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good…. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”  If we ask the Lord to help us with our words He will convict us when our words do not please Him.  We might say, I didn’t mean that or It just came out, when truthfully  what comes from our mouth is from our heart.

James 2:3 says “We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check.”

We need to be honest with ourselves and allow God to transform us by the power of HIS Holy Spirit.  When our hearts are filled with Him, His wisdom and His grace, we will speak in such a way as to bless others.

Merciful Lord, I praise you that we can call out to You when we need Your help to know how important it is to encourage and pray for others.   Help us to confess the wrong of our hurtful words when they really reflect a heart issue.  Help us to be better and not bitter. Give us  repentant hearts. Fill us, Lord, with Your Holy Spirit that our words will be words of love. Help us Father to think of others and how we can encourage and bless them and to forget about ourselves. Thank you Lord for youR forgiveness and blessing and for the JOY that only YOU can give. In Jesus name. Amen.

Words of Love #2

Prov. 16:24  “Gracious words are like a honey comb,

sweetness to the soul and health to the body.”

The body and soul are in close relationship. We can not separate them. Sweet kind words will lend help spiritually and physically.

Words of encouragement will lift the spirit and have a true healing affect on the recipient. It is important that we are not just the recipient of encouraging words but the givers.

I cannot explain the joy and encouragement that I receive when someone in our ministry introduces me as “this is our pastor’s wife”.   This spurs me on to a fresh desire to do the job of pastor’s wife even better for God’s glory and honor.

I was studying for this article and the phone rang and it was our sister Becky who wanted help with a hymn arrangement in the Key of C and I mentioned to her that some of the newer hymnals have transposed a lot of the hymns to lower keys because (in my opinion) “people are lazy”.   I stopped….  Ooops!  I am here writing about being encouraging and using positive talk… and I caught myself….being negative…. I should have said, “because peoples voices are lower than in years past.”

By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted”. Prov. 11:11a

Think of someone who needs to be encouraged. Write out your plan  and the words you will use and then put that plan to use. If you don’t have a plan you probably won’t do it.

Prov.10:20  “The tongue of the righteous is choice silver.”

We ladies tend to be more verbal so we need to guard our tongues. There are over 100 references to the tongue in the Proverbs.. And there are twelve of them which refer to the heart.  How do we get tongues of righteousness? By being connected to the source of wisdom, the Scriptures, the Word of God.  The heart that is bathed in the Word of God will come forth with rich words of silver, highly refined. Thus our tongue will flow with words that are of superior quality. Help us Lord.

We will not need to use negative comments, minced oaths or slang expressions of crudity. Because we are filled with the Holy Spirit. He will give us the words to say out of hearts of love.  “Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against Thee.”  Ps. 119:11
