June 7, 2015   Jane’s Heart to Heart   …Pastor’s Help Mate

Last week we covered the importance of Praying for Your Husband….This week I want to talk about   PRAYERS FOR YOU, THE WIFE.  I want to read some suggested prayers today for you to pray before you begin your task of praying for your husband, leaders, and sons.

It is important that we, dear ladies pray for total surrender to our Lord and Saviour.  I truly believe many of us don’t pray because we do not know what to say.  I have told you before that I have been blessed by reading Scriptures as my prayers.  First you need to search the Scriptures for truths that you truly desire in your heart for yourself as a servant of Christ. If you want to be a servant…”if you want to go up,  go down”  “if you want to be first, be last” get on your knees and pray the verse I recited  last week Ps. 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

Another prayer that will help you to have a right perspective in your life is to pray the prayer that Christ prayed on the cross….. My what an example that is.  “Abba Father … He said, “Everything is possible for You. Take this cup from me, Yet, not what I will, but what you will.”   That is a hard prayer to pray when you have your heart set on something and really think it is a right thing. When you are in pain and want relief,  when you lose a loved one, or you praying for a prodigal child or perhaps  feeling guilty about something in your past, Lord, Help us to pray aright.

MY version goes like this, “Lord, this is what I want and what I think is right, but if it is not your will, Lord, slam the door hard and turn me around and lead me in the right direction.”

Prayers of Confession: These are important too. Before we can pray for anyone or anything else we must remember, I John 1:9 “ If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”  Now wait, this is written to Christians and it is not license to sin. It is a reminder that when we as Christians do sin we must come to HIM in sorrow and a repentant spirit asking forgiveness and strength to go on  and stop sinning. So when you do just that -confess and forsake – you can claim the victory and have JOY in your life.

Just a little list of sins to confess: Being critical, judgmental, lazy, unbelieving, fearful, gluttonous, unthankful, grumbling, sarcasmtic, resentful, angry, proud, lustful, independent, prayer-less, nagging, time-wasting, gossipy, slanderous, bitter, raging, lying, jealous, procrastinating. Or-perhaps we have not named yours yet, then just ask the Lord to reveal to you areas of sin in your life. Most important is to determine in your heart of hearts to be JOYFUL and praise the Lord for HIS peace and His truth and ask Him to help you to know that you are accepted by Him.  Claim the wonderful promises in His Word and do not allow satan for one moment  to cause you to doubt God’s wonderful love for you and His ability to meet your EVERY need.

I have been blessed  while preparing these studies May – June by a little book I found on the internet several years ago…by  Lylah Ledner with Women in Touch Ministries. Inc. 1999 and of course my studies with Nancy DeMoss.
