FEAR    DESPAIR    STRESS    LOSS   HEARTACHE  LONELINESS

Whatever you’re leaning on, whatever you’re looking to – to meet the deepest needs of your heart, will be the cause or the occasion of distress at some time or other—unless you’re leaning on the Lord.

The word Amen is from the word amenable, This is a person who is open and responsive to suggestion; easily persuaded.  A child who is easy to raise would be called amenable, cooperative, acquiescent, compliant, accommodating, obliging, manageable, controllable,  persuadable. Antonyms  would be unresponsive, resistant.

Last week John Wykes II asked if he hurt my hand when he shook my hand and we got to laughing about the types of handshakes.   The dead fish, or the knuckle breaker. Have you ever taken a persons hand and he or she did not respond, but it felt like a dead fish.

One time I was working in children’s church and I put my hand on a little girl’s shoulder to greet her and she tensed up and became very unresponsive.

Is this the way we are with the Lord. Do we resist His love and counsel.  Do you pull back from his guidance in His Word?   The Lord will never fail you. He will never distress you. He will never let you down.

Let’s look at  Psalm 131

Psalm 131

A song of ascents. Of David.

1 My heart is not proud, Lord,
my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
or things too wonderful for me.

2 But I have calmed and quieted myself,
I am like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child I am content.

3 Israel, put your hope in the Lord
both now and forevermore.

Now, let’s  look back to the previous Psalm. These are actually kind of twin psalms. Let’s look at Psalm 130, which just expands on hoping in the Lord. You fulfill Psalm 131:3, hoping in the Lord, by living out Psalm 130.

CAN YOU SING THIS SONG WITH DAVID……?

Psalm 130

Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord ;

Lord, hear my voice!

Let Your ears be attentive

To the voice of my supplications.

If You, Lord, should mark iniquities,

O Lord, who could stand?

But there is forgiveness with You,

That You may be feared.

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,

And in His Word I do hope.

My soul waits for the Lord

More than those who watch for the morning—

Yes, more than those who watch for the morning.

AMEN ?
