OCTOBER 25, 2015   JANE’S HEART TO HEART       …PASTOR’S HELP MATE

Ps. 71:22-24 KJV,   22 I will also praise thee with the psaltery, even thy truth, O my God: unto thee will I sing with the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel.  23 My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.  24 My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt.

A few years ago I began to develop dysphonia and of course it has affected my ability to sing. I have shared before but some of you are new that I have always signed all my correspondence ” Singing His Praise” and now I sign with “Still Singing His Praise in my Heart”.

I have determined in my Heart to continue to lift my Heart in praise for His Glory. On Sunday morning when the songs are sung, I begin to sing very softly and am able to sing about three lines and then I have to stop, for the pain, severe ache in my throat, but then I just mouth the words so that I will not be a bad testimony and truly try to think of the words in my heart as if I were singing them JOYOUSLY.

Now that I am teaching Kid’s Chapel I cannot sing at all so that I will have enough voice to speak in chapel…. It isn’t the broken voice that causes me to stop, but the pain. I say all this, not to bring sympathy, because I can not cease to Praise the Lord for the many years He has allowed me to use my voice for His Glory as He allowed me to sing un-numbered solos and teach others to sing in private voice lessons and choirs in our churches and Christian Schools.

I share this to emphasize  and help us to comprehend God’s righteous affect on our lives.    Yes, I rebelled, and I cried out to God, I had some bitterness and I was hurt. But through his GRACE, I determined not to be a “wimpy, whiney woman”, or as I say “gave myself a swift kick” and strive to “get over it” and “let it go”.

Ps. 109:30-31 (KJV)  30 I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.31 For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.

We can know He is standing with us in every attempt we make to honor Him in every weakness and other areas in which we struggle.

Psalm 73:24 24 “Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.”

AMY CARMICHAEL  penned these short comments  which later were put in a little book with the title, “IF”.

Amy began her little book with this Scripture:

Ephesians 3:17 (KJV)

17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

18 May be able to comprehend with all saints

what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge,

that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

I want to read just a few for you today from my heart.

IF I HAVE NOT compassion on my fellow-servant, even as my Lord had pity on me, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I can easily discuss the shortcomings and the sins of any; if I can speak in a casual way even of a child’s misdoings, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I can enjoy a joke at the expense of another; if I can in any way slight another in conversation, or even in thought, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I can write an unkind letter, speak an unkind word, think an unkind thought without grief and shame, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If I am afraid to speak the truth, lest I lose affection, or lest the one concerned should say, “You do not understand,” or because I fear to lose my reputation for kindness; if I put my own good name before the other’s highest good, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

If souls can suffer alongside, and I hardly know it, because the spirit of discernment is not in me, then I know nothing of Calvary love.

And now as you have heard me read before, my favorite and hardest…..

If a sudden jar can cause me to speak an impatient, unloving word, then I know nothing of Calvary love. For a cup brimful of sweet water cannot spill even one drop of bitter water, however suddenly jolted.

Making Sure That You Know You Are Ready When the Lord Comes.

When inquiring of people where they are with the Lord we often get many different responses.

I did that when I was a child,  when I attended ____ church or release time class, yet each one did not sound confident in his standing with the Lord.

-Many say I did that at VBS or just I used to go to VBS in the summer.

-My uncle is a preacher, my mother taught me all that…

-I was baptized when I was _____ yet they don’t sound sure.

-I used to go to church.

-I did that at release time class but still they are uncertain in their response.

In most of those cases they remembered something in their past but did not sound confident in their stand with the Lord.

If you  aren’t sure it could be because, since you made that decision you were not  taught clearly what being saved really means.

Perhaps when you were discipled, you personally did not carry through with those steps of obedience and turn away from sin and disobedience.

How can you have confidence  in your salvation?

Tell the Lord that you want to KNOW that you are saved. Confess known sin to the Lord. Go to a strong Bible preaching church, be baptized and join that church, read your Bible daily, and pray, which is just talking to the Lord. Confessing any daily sin and being determined to go on from there and not continually live a life of sin. Ask God daily to help you when you are  tempted to sin.

You might say how do I know what to do or not to do?  Seek godly counsel from a pastor another Christian person in the church, attend church and listen intently to the preaching.

Claim God’s promises.  Open your Bible to John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (by death on the Cross) that whosoever (you and me, everyone) believeth on Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.”     What kind of life _________________?  That is right everlasting life.

Once you know Christ, the first thing you need to do is tell someone that you have given you life to Christ and then do what you can every day to win someone else to Christ by being a witness.   What is a witness?  That is when you tell others what Christ has done for you and then that HE will do the same for them.

If you are fearful of saying the right thing ask the pastor or myself for a simple gospel tract to carry with you to share the Gospel and don’t give that one away.  Keep it and make a list of people you have led to Christ.

What is the Gospel?   Read the Scripture below from Matthew thoughtfully.

Have you ever had the privilege of leading some to Christ to be saved. If so raise your hands.

Now I am speaking especially to the children and young people today.  When you think about what you are going to do when you become an adult, first ask the Lord what He wants you to do and I am sure it will have something to do with spreading the Gospel.

Matthew 28:

16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.

17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Once you have receive Christ as your Saviour then the Great Commision above is your responsibility.  Go and tell others and lead them to Christ.

Here is a song that we do not want to be true of us as Christians.

 NO FRUIT FOR THE MASTER

  1. Jesus was traveling a dusty highway.

When in the Distance he saw a fig tree.

But drawing closer oh what did He see,

Nothing, Nothing but leaves.

Chorus:

No fruit for the Master

Nothing but leaves.

No Fruit for the Master See how He grieves

How many ther are who although they believe,

Have nothing, Nothing but leaves.

2.  Fruitless and barren they stand like that tree

Receiving his blessing so rich and so free.

But as Christ sees them He only can see.

Nothing, Nothing but leaves.

Chorus:

3.  Friend, ’tis a warning to you and to me

Are we as barren as that old fig tree?

And when the master looks down does he see.

Nothing, Nothing but leaves?

Chorus

***********

The fruit in our lives is those whom we influence to follow Christ…

Let us not be with out fruit.

Matthew 21:19

And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on you again forever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

My Heart’s Silent Song of Praise

My Heart’s Silent Song of Praise

I wrote this little song on May 30, 2015 and sent a note to our youngest son Nathan and ask if he could come up with an arrangement for me… in just a few hours he sent this back to me with the recorded song he sang in my place…  Thank you again, Nathan.

My Mother’s Voice

My Strength is gone
My voice is low
My hands cease their labor
Yet they raise to Him
My heart’s silent song of Praise

He knows my thoughts
With thankful heart
I lift my silent call.
To yield to Him my all.
My heart’s silent song of Praise.

Those gifts He loaned
To use for HIM
That others too could know
Of His great love.
My heart’s silent song of Praise.

Still Singing His Praise in My Heart.

This humble little poem is my Heart as I realize more and more how the Lord allows us to give our talents to Him which has been my desire since my youth.

I thank Him for the honor of having been able to serve Him in so many ways and now He is allowing me to honor HIM in other ways…. Praying that I will be open to these new ways as I continue to serve HIM as long as He chooses.

It is such a JOY to know that He has the plans.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. –Jer. 12:11 NIV

Give Yourself a Firm Kick Spiritually

This is what I often think to myself when times come when I become discouraged and disheartened.

Paul wrote: in Phil. 3  NIV

Please take the time to read this carefully.

No Confidence in the Flesh

Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you. Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh—though I myself have reasons for such confidence.

If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for righteousness based on the law, faultless.

But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in[a] Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. 10 I want to knowChrist—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.

12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Following Paul’s Example

15 All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. 16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.

17 Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do. 18 For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame.Their mind is set on earthly things. 20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

I think of Paul giving himself a “firm spiritual kick” and that really helps me to do the same.

The Lord is faithful and He will help you to stand true to Him.

It is most important that when you are going through a trial or heartache that we Pray.

Yes, even a short prayer….. like “HELP ME, LORD” and then get up off your humble knees spiritually speaking, since I can not kneel well.  Then get busy and start doing right as you Sing His Praise in Your Heart and set about to do anything you can to take your mind in the direction of serving him.

  • do dishes
  • mow the lawn
  • clean the closet
  • make a phone call to a shut in
  • send a card to someone who needs to be encouraged and share how you get encouragement
  •  go for a brisk walk or jog – hard on the knees.   🙁
  • ask your parent (youths) if there is something you can do to help them (after they get over the shock) get busy and do it with a spring in your steps and JOY in your heart and even better do something your parents or spouse has already asked you to do and let it be a surprise.

Remember that the way to REAL JOY is

JESUS FIRST

OTHERS SECOND

YOURSELF LAST

Come on maybe that is your real problem.  SELF!

OH ME!

Psalm 84: 10-12 Thank you Father for you Promises

10  For a day in your courts is better

than a thousand elsewhere.

I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God

than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

11  For the Lord God is a sun and shield;

the Lord bestows favor and honor.

No good thing does he withhold

from those who walk uprightly.

12  O Lord of hosts,

blessed is the one who trusts in you!

I HAVE BEEN BLESSED

When I was a freshman in High school in Dowagiac, MI, a new girl, Toby came to our school. She was a beautiful young Jewish girl and as I got to know her I realized that she did not know the Lord.  We  would often meet on the way home because we took the same route until we came to her street….which was about three blocks from where I lived.   One day as we came to the corner of her street she invited me to her house to show me something. The first thing in my mind was my need to get her to go to church with me and for the Lord to open up an opportunity to win her to Christ. I told her that I could stop by but would not be able to stay long since I had chores to do. While we  talked I invited her to church and the conversation turned to her need for Christ and she sweetly surrender to the Lord that day.   That week end she did attend church with me and a few other times but I never really had an opportunity to disciple her because my daddy took a job in Evanston IL and we moved there that summer.

My  sister lived in South Bend, IN and was able to keep up with former classmates and church friends because she lived  closer and she shared with me that Tobi and Raymond Vandenberg of our youth group got married. I was prayerful that she was growing in the Lord and that they were living for Him.  A few years ago Sue told me that she had a note for me from Toby and that she and Raymond worked in Pensacola in children’s ministry for many years. When I got the letter Toby shared that she was the little Jewish girl that I had shared Christ with when we were in High school.  That was so exciting to me to know that I had planted the seed and others had discipled her.

A few years ago my sister shared that Raymond had gone to be with the Lord and I looked on the internet for his obituary so that I could write to Toby.   It was there that I noticed that one of their sons was a pastor in South Haven. I  checked  FB to see if I might be able to contact them.   Sure enough, I contacted Jame and chatted a bit with her. She told me that she was going to speak at a church in Litchfield in two weeks and wondered if it might be ours.   It ended up being First Baptist and indeed I attended the dinner where she spoke.

Last Sunday evening, Ken and I turned on the service we often watch and heard a family singing  on “Rejoice In The Lord” at Pensacola Christian College.  They were singing “ I Have Been Blessed”.  I truly was blessed to tears when I began to remember that this man, Jon Vandenberg was Toby’s son.  I like to claim him  as my Spiritual grandchild and his  daughters as spiritual  great grandchildren.  Thank you, Lord, for the JOY of winning others to You.

When you witness and give out tracts and pray for others to be saved you may not know the result.  I am thankful that the Lord  allowed me to know that this person that I led to Him not only trusted Christ but others discipled her and then she and her husband raised their son  for Christ and this continues on in his family.

Still Singing His Praise in my Heart.

1 Corinthians 3:6-8 (KJV)

I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
