Pound Party

Pound Party

Listening to our son Ken Pierpont‘s story this morning, reminded me of when we moved to Belpre, OH along the North side of the Ohio River. When we arrived with our U-Haul truck at Putnam St. at the beautiful parsonage many of the youth of the church made up an assembly line and unloaded that truck in short order. Some of the folk had planted beautiful flower gardens around the house. Then at the first service with those dear people, they had what they called a “POUND” party for us. I was not sure if they were going to pound on us or what. It turned out to be ‘a pound of this and a pound of that’, what other churches have called a “food shower” We had so many groceries that the table, counters, floor. refrigerator and chairs of our beautiful kitchen were loaded and bulging. I have some very special memories of our ministry there and many other ministries where we formed life-long Christian friendships. In all of our 56 + years of ministry the Lord has taken care of us in amazing ways. Another example was when we were in Oklahoma City, and we were low on funds and on of the ladies called us and wondered if we could use some pears. She had more than she could use and many were on the ground and she was not able to do anything with them. The kids still talk about eating pears with peanut butter on them for supper that day. The Lord will provide. Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging for bread.
