AN EASTER PRAYER FOR PEACE

Our Father up in heaven,

hear this Easter Prayer:

May the people of ALL NATIONS

BE UNITED IN THY CARE,

For earth’s peace and man’s salvation

can come only by Thy grace

And not through bombs and missiles

and our quest for outer space…

For until all men recognize that

“THE BATTLE IS THE LORD’S”

And peace on earth can not be won

with strategy and swords,

We will go on vainly fighting,

as we have in ages past,

Finding only empty victories

and a peace that can not last…

But we’ve grown so rich and mighty

and so arrogantly strong,

We no longer ask in humbleness—

“God, show us where we’re wrong”…

We have come to trust completely

in the power of man-made things,

Unmindful of God’s mighty power

and that HE IS “KING OF KINGS”…

We have turned our eyes from HIM

to go our selfish way,

And money, power and pleasure

are the gods we serve today…

And the good green earth

God gave us to peacefully enjoy,

Through greed and fear and hatred

we are seeking to destroy…

Oh, Father, up in heaven,

stir and wake our sleeping souls,

Renew our faith and lift us up

and give us higher goals,

And grant us heavenly guidance

as Easter comes again—

For, more than GUIDED MISSILES,

all the world needs GUIDED MEN.

*******

The Lord is good,

a strong hold

in the day of trouble;

and he knoweth

them that trust in him

This is the testimony of Liza Miller who has a BS in Biblical Counseling from Bob Jones University and is a wife and a mother of two little boys. She and her husband Phil are now members at Northeastern Baptist in Kalamazoo, serving the Lord faithfully.

LIZA’S TESTIMONY

In the last week of January of 1993, I was attending a revival meeting at Northwest Valley Baptist Church in Glendale, Arizona. Although I had grown up believing in God the Father, in His Son Jesus’ death and resurrection, and in the Holy Spirit, it was all a head knowledge that did not affect my life very much. Also, I grew up thinking that, in addition to believing in God, it was necessary for me to do certain good works in order to earn my way into heaven.

While attending Northwest Valley for a couple years as a preteen, I learned many truths from the Bible that I had not previously understood. I learned that God is the holy Creator of all things and that my sin separated me from God. I also learned that the punishment for my sin was eternal death in hell and in the lake of fire. The Scriptures also teach that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life fulfilling all of God’s laws and that He died on the cross for our sins and that Christ rose again to life three days later. In addition, I learned that God offers eternal life to those who trust in His Son by FAITH, by faith alone. “For by grace are you saved through FAITH, and that not of yourselves, it is the GIFT of God, NOT of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). Since I really did want to be saved from my sin, I asked God to save me. However, I wasn’t sure if I was praying the right words, so I kept on asking God to save me again and again.

Then, in January of 1993, during revival week at Northwest Valley, everything changed! As I sat listening to Evangelist Steve Pettit, he said that God is not a liar. Steve said that God promises, “Whosoever calls upon the name of the LORD shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). He said that if we call on the Lord to be saved, he will save us; and then . . . as we grow in Christ, the assurance of our salvation will grow. IT ALL MADE SENSE THAT EVENING! God gave me the understanding that it was NOT the prayer that I prayed that saved me but it was only BELIEVING and TRUSTING in Jesus’ death and resurrection which would grant me eternal life. No good works could ever save me, including the prayers I prayed. So, that evening I asked God to forgive me of my sins and trusted in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I called on the Lord, and He saved me. I have not had one single doubt of my salvation since that night. It has been crystal clear to me from so many Scriptures that God is the One who saved me and the One who keeps me; my salvation is based on what Jesus Christ did for me, not because of anything that I have ever done.

I praise the Lord for the new birth that He provided for me 23 years ago!!

Have you been born again?

Faith

The word “faith” is sometimes misunderstood. Faith is not static, it does not remain the same. It is not just a one time event that occurs at conversion. Let’s look at the Biblical definition of faith in II Peter together. We’re talking about Growing in Grace and Truth For Life

2 Peter 1:1-7  (KJV)

1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:   2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,   3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:   4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.   5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;   6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;   7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.   8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The words barren and unfruitful are talking about you  leading a person to  Jesus Christ as their Saviour.  Do you witness to others, have you lead your children to Christ.   What if I asked for those to raise their hands today who have led someone to trust Christ as their own personal Savior?   What if I asked do you know what to do if someone asked you to show them how to be saved?  Can others see the fruit on your spiritual tree? Do they want some of that fruit?  We need to be able to share the truth of the Gospel. What are you doing for the Lord?  Or is you tree barren?

9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

This verse is saying that if you could not say yes to the above questions that you are blind and you have forgotten that you personally have been born again.

10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

What things?  The statements in verse eight. You are going to have spiritual children so to speak.  And you are going to be out there sharing the gospel daily.

11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the

everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

I see this verse saying, that  this is how we have Peace and JOY in our daily lives,

by sharing the Gospel and winning others to Christ.

The time is short, we need to win the lost, before it is eternally too late.
