SEPTEMBER 25, 2016   JANE’S HEART TO HEART …PASTOR’S HELP MATE

I have been reading, The Daniel Prayer, by Ann Graham Lotz.  Out of the sixteen verses of Daniel’s Prayer  in chapter 9, twelve of them confess sin, our sin.

Looking at our nation today, could the problem be  our unconfessed sin.

While working on the first message of a seminar,  Ann said that she felt in her heart that the Holy Spirit was prompting her to talk about herself to the Lord.  She felt she was short on time and balked at that idea.  The silence in her heart was loud and she realized she needed to fall on her face before the Lord and spend time in the confession of her own sin and need.  After five days of humiliation and painful prayer and conviction of her sin, she came up with this  list she used from reading the book  “Preparing the Heart for Revival” C.G. Finney. It was suggested to take pencil and paper and go through the list three times to see that nothing is  left  out, reasoning that our sins come one at a time.

SIN TO CONFESS

Ingratitude – failure to thank God for favors given before and after salvation

Losing love for God – evidence of a loss of love for Him

Neglect Bible Reading – loss of delight in the Word, distracted by surroundings

Unbelief – lack of faith and trust that HE will answer prayer

Neglect of prayer – spiritual chatter, lack of fervency and focus

Lack of Concern for Souls    while family, friends & neighbors are without Christ

Neglect of Family – putting my wants and needs ahead of my family

Love of the World – my possessions are mine, money is mine to use as I choose

Pride – time spent on how I look more than preparing my heart for worship

Envy – jealousy of others who are more fruitful or gifted, or hearing others praised

A critical spirit – finding fault with others who don’t measure up to my standards

Slander – of others’ faults, real or imagined, discussed behind their backs

Lack Seriousness with God – sleepy prayers, late to church, how time is spent

Lying – anything but the truth, desire to impress,  exaggerated, high opinion of self

Cheating – not treating others as I would want to be treated

Hypocrisy – pretend to be something I am not

Robbing God – wasting time, your God  given talents for a fee, but not for God.

Temper – impatience, cross, emotional, abusive thoughts or words

Hindering Others – undermining others’ confidence by unreasonably high standards

Arrogance – accepting God’s forgiveness yet, not forgiving myself or others

Ann shared that after seven days of confession and conviction the Lord finally gave her a “sweet, blessed assurance that she was cleansed and filled and ready to begin her messages.

Please take the time  to evaluate  this list for yourself.  Make a list and prepare yourself for prayer for our nation.

Daniel 9:19   “O Lord, hear: O Lord forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by thy name.”

I just had to come into this post and add this note of praise of the work of the Holy Spirit in our service today….

Our daughter Melony Evans just got home from helping with her newest grandson  in MD and hadn’t really had time to prepare but when she got up to sing at her scheduled time this morning she sang this song.

What a blessing how well it went with this Heart to Heart and with her dad’s message….  The Lord did it all and put it all together.

Be sure to read the words of this song.

Glorious Freedom   –  J. Lincoln Hall

Once I was bound by sin’s galling fetters;
Chained like a slave, I struggled in vain.
But I received a glorious freedom,
When Jesus broke my fetters in twain.

Refrain

Glorious freedom! Wonderful freedom!
No more in chains of sin I repine!
Jesus the glorious Emancipator—
Now and forever He shall be mine.

Freedom from all the carnal affections;
Freedom from envy, hatred and strife;
Freedom from vain and worldly ambitions;
Freedom from all that saddened my life!

Refrain

Freedom from pride and all sinful follies;
Freedom from love and glitter of gold;
Freedom from evil temper and anger;
Glorious freedom, rapture untold!

Refrain

Freedom from fear with all of its torments;
Freedom from care with all of its pain;
Freedom in Christ, my blessèd Redeemer—
He who has rent my fetters in twain.

Refrain
