2013-06-02-08-58-09Fighting Fear…..

Beverly LaHaye (born April 30, 1929) is an American Christian conservative activist and author who founded Concerned Women for America (CWA) in San Diego, California in 1979 and is the organization’s current chair. She was the wife of the late evangelical Christian minister and prolific author of the Left Behind series Timothy LaHaye. They had been married over 60 years.

Their Motto: “Protecting the rights of the family through prayer and action. LaHaye represents the  CWA on family issues at congressional hearings, rallies and seminars throughout the country.  Early  in her ministry she struggled with fear…. One time she relates  how she feared her  husband’s desire to be an airplane pilot,  and after a reasonable time passed,  he challenged her to ask the Lord to take away the fear.  She prayed and reminded the Lord that she felt she was right about her fear of his learning to fly and that she had been praying that he  would change. Then she prayed, “Lord, I’m ready for you to change my heart if that is what needs to be changed.”

She also struggled with the fear of speaking publicly as a young pastor’s wife and after 15  years in  ministry with her  husband their pastor shared

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”  Then without trying to spare her feelings, he told her that she was wrapped up with fear  and  a poor self-image, and that it is caused by selfishness.

To make a long story short, Beverly learned the truth of Romans 14:23, “for whatsoever is not from faith is sin.”   God wants us to walk by faith.

We must learn that fear is a sin and we must confess that sin to the Lord and expressing that to Him in prayer is a very significant step in overcoming those fears.

Memorize 2 Timothy 1:7 above and make it a determined prayer to confess that sin to the Lord. The wonderful consequence of confronting your fears and trusting God to take care of you is such a JOY.   Beverly LaHaye never dreamed when she surrendered her fear of flying to the Lord that God was preparing her for many missionary journeys over the jungles right up to the Nicaraguan border in a little plane with just one engine.

While flying in a commuter plane with one of their attorneys a turbulent  storm blew up.  As the sky outside grew darker and more ominous that little plane bounced and tossed around in the air. The attorney asked later, I don’t get it.  How could you two sleep so peacefully with that terrible storm going on outside?”

Fear is sin…… ask God to give you the victory over  whatever sin is besetting you.

A PSALM OF SWEET PEACE

Psalm 4 (KJV) has been a balm to me this past week….

1 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

2 O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah. [Definitions: leasing: lies or falsehood.  Selah:  a word that escapes a clear definition… but perhaps is like a break in the music or Psalms…  A musical term… indicating a pause. or an Amen.]

3 But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the Lord will hear  when I call unto him.

4 Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.

6 There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.

7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.

8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.

This first verse of this Psalm is like singing a song of God’s faithfulness to us,  in hearing as we call out to HIM for rest and mercy in our times of trouble.

If you are like me, in the past year, I have had to call out to the Lord,  many times, when our dear loved ones have gone on ahead of us.

The Second: the word ‘leasing’  refers to falsehood, vanity or folly;  a reminder of how we hang on to things we cannot keep: material things and personal relationships and things we idolize above our relationship with Christ alone.

The Third:  We who are  Godly are set apart unto Him and He hears our prayers.

The Fourth and Fifth:  Remind us not to tremble or sin by not Trusting His wisdom.

The Sixth and Seventh::  When many of us question His judgment and fear for our future and then remind the Lord of our JOY when we prosper.

The Eighth: And at last we can say to the Lord, I will trust in you and be able to lie down and sleep.

Ah! Yes, Lord, You alone give us PEACE….
