Thanksgiving is past.  You have already had some leftover turkey sandwiches or pot pie. Yes, today some of you may still choose some turkey at our dinner.

But let’s remember that our Thanksgiving should be, an all year around event.

In the morning when I rise, Give me Jesus. You can have all this world but, Give me Jesus.

You can choose to say,In the morning, when I rise, Give Me Jesus.  When I am alone,   Give me Jesus…You can have all this world, Give me Jesus. When I come to die, Give me Jesus.”

Early in your life you can choose as Mrs Ruth Graham did,  you too can choose Christ for you center, your home, your purpose your example and your vision.

We can all make that choice today.

Psalm 72:18-19   “Blessed is the LORD God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things, and blessed be his glorious name forever and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen and Amen.

I Will Praise Him Still

When the morning comes on the farthest hill

I will sing His name, I will praise Him, still.

When dark trials come and my heart is filled

With the weight of doubt, I will praise Him, still.

(Chorus)

For the Lord, our God, He is strong to save

From the arms of death, from the deepest grave,

And He gave us life in His perfect will,

And by His good grace, I will praise Him, still.

Today at our church was Gideon Sunday….

Gideon International  Motto

“Let.s Spread the Good News”              Judges 7

Gideon was a man who was willing to do exactly what God wanted him to do, regardless of his own judgment as to the plans or results. Humility, faith, and obedience were his great elements of character. This is the standard that The Gideons International is trying to establish in all its members, each man to be ready to do God’s will at any time, at any place, and in any way that the Holy Spirit leads.

karen7-2-20Karen Wilson is a very dear friend of mine on the internet who is deaf and has had many heartaches in her life… but knowing Karen as I do she would not want me to talk about her, but her wonderful Saviour.  I asked her to submit something which I could post this week.

The Fruit of the Spirit        Karen Wilson

Dear Heavenly Father,

As I reach out to You today, help me to be fruitful.

May I show love today, especially to those who are not  loving towards me.

May I show joy from You to others who are hurting inside. Help me to uplift and encourage that person!

May I rest in peace today, amidst a crazy world where wrong seems right and chaos rules. May others be calmed by Your peace in me.

May Your Spirit teach me long-suffering…and to rest in your perfect will for me. Remind me how your timing is always perfect in all circumstances.

May I be gentle and good to all I meet, so that they may see the gentleness and goodness of Christ through my life. And may they realize that it is only through Christ living in us, that the fruit of the Spirit can be revealed to others.

Give me the fruit of meekness, that I will not be easily provoked and that I will have a calm mind to face today’s challenges.

May I have the fruit of faith…to trust in You no matter what, and to rest in knowing that you have all the answers to my questions already worked out. Remind me that You were there in the past, You are here with me now, and You are already in the future, waiting for me there.

Finally, Lord, give me the fruit of temperance that I may live with moderation and self-restraint.

Lord, I pray all these things from my heart and for my life today, knowing that this is only possible when I release my will to Yours and allow Your Spirit to work in me. Amen

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,

goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

Galatians 5:22-23

Have you ever considered what the Lord would have you to do with your life.  Have you ever considered giving your life to the Lord for some kind of Christian service?

You might say, ” I don’t know, I want to do this or that”.  Perhaps you should pray and ask the Lord to reveal to you what He would have you to do. Have you ever asked HIM? I wonder how long it has been since a person from this church has gone out from here to serve the Lord full time or even just said,” Lord, I am willing to serve you here at SLBC or in my work place or school while I am waiting on God’s leading in my life.” Today is the Day for full surrender!

-BIILL BRIGHT CAMPUS CRUSADE FOR CHRIST said:

“UNTIL THERE IS TOTAL SURRENDER, THERE IS NO VISION.”

The  first thing  a Christian should do is Surrender his or her life to the Lord and tell the Lord that you want to do what He wants you to do every day and every hour and then start pursuing what type of Christian service the Lord has for you. If that is not HIS choice for  you  He will shut the door.  When you do surrender to Him you will want to set out to obey Him in baptism and reading the Word and show Him you are determined  to follow Him, He is not going to show you the next step until you obey in the first step. He will then show you one step at a time what He has in store for you.

In Nancy DeMoss’s Devotion for Sept. 9, entitled, “King over All”   Acts 17:28 says “In Him we live and move and have our being.”   The concept of a Sovereign King who exercises absolute control over His subjects is one that our Western mind finds difficult for us to accept. We want to have a say in the matter, to vote for the leader of our choice.  We might say the thought of someone exercising control over us is insufferable and demeaning, but for the Christian the Lordship of Christ is a nonnegotiable reality. He is God.

There is such a safety and security afforded us in yielding to that control. Do you relish or resist the thought of relinquishing control of every area of your life to God? Surrender is the KEY to great freedom and peace.

Children on the way to school in the morning do not have the privilege of voting whether Mom or 8 year old Suzie is in control of the minivan today. The fact that Mom doesn’t share the driving privileges with her preschooler does not make her a control freak, but rather a loving responsible authority, appropriately asserting her role over her children.

Adults sitting here,  have you ever asked the Lord what  He want you to do for Him. I know some are failing in health, but we can still maintain a testimony of Christ love to our families or caregivers and do what we can to show others what an obedient Christian looks like even through trials.

Those who are able, ask the Lord for a clear mind..not for yourself but for His glory and set out to serve him. It is never to late to surrender to HIM.  He will do the rest.
